how do we upload photo’s? do we have to send to an email or how does it work

How do you upload photo’s that are NOT for the competition, but rather just pics of getaways?

I just want to know can we edit the photo in photoshop, or what can we do and what not?

Hi Cimone. There is nothing in the rules that prevents using any editing software, but this is a skill in itself and the judges will take this into account.
And also what should be the size of the photographs if you just want it published in the magazine? The ultimate getawyas. It is on page 8 in the August magazine.

Image submissions should be around 1MB (large enough to see on screen) and we will request a high resolution version for publishing.
in terms of submitting photographs: most pictures featured are of nature and/or animals, yet the magazine is about travel in general. is there a restriction on subject matter?
Hi Karin. There is no restriction on subject matter. We encourage travel photographs from all genres – people, culture, cityscapes, landscapes, wildlife etc… But they must have been taken in Africa. Travel in Africa tends to be wildlife orientated hence the predomination of wildlife images, but we welcome photographs of anything related to travel in Africa.
While I do appreciate that photographs look very beautiful after having been photo-shopped, I personally prefer not to edit my work too much, will this be to my detriment? I do play around with colour and contrast slightly, but nothing extravagant.
Great question Christie. We see editing as part of the photographic process (much like the darkroom with film) and value good editing skills. However, as a travel and wildlife brand, we favour more natural looking images for the Getaway Gallery photo competition.

Unfortunately personal feedback is difficult with hundreds of entries each month. May I suggest joining one of our photography lectures or boots camps?

HI Lorna. Yes, the 2013 competition is open as per usual. We are finalising some great prizes and will keep everyone updated.
When does the next competition start- or when is the best time to submit photos?
Hi Jochie. The 2013 competition is open as per usual and we will confirm prizes early next year. Judging takes place at the end of each month.
I have sent a photo to the e-mail address gallery@getaway.co.za and got a confirmation right away that my entry has been received. I then tried to send a second photo, but never got a confirmation for that one? I have sent it again, but still no confirmation. Do you send a confirmation only for the first entry?

Where can I post my photos?

Just wanted to know if your photo doesn’t feature in the gallery does it mean it hasn’t been selected or does it take a while to feature?
Hi Zack. We judge at the end of each month and the finalists are notified immediately. Finalists, as well as other great photos, will feature on the website at any point, but usually two months later (to co-inside with the magazine publication.
Photos must be of south africa ?
Hi Wayne. We accept all photos taken throughout Africa and the offshore islands.
I agree with Michael, the book is amazing and I too have purchased the book and use it as inspiration which helps when looking at my own photographs prior to editing. My question is, when is the next Best of Gallery coming out?
